Laika’s award-winning documentary Toxic Playground is now visible in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It’s the company CNEX Studio Corporation that has bought the right to broadcast the film in these countries.
The film tells the story of the hundreds of children in the village Arica in Chile who has been seriously ill from the toxic waste that has been dumped from Boliden’s plant in Rönnskärsverken outside Skellefteå in Sweden.
Right now an ongoing court case is taken place since 702 poisoned villagers sued the mining company Boliden Mineral AB in September 2013. Since then, the number of victims suing Boliden has risen to over 800, and the compensation required is estimated at SEK 120 million.
