ARICA to premiere at IDFA

Milka at her daughter’s grave

Our film ARICA will have it’s WORLD PREMIERE at IDFA.

Film makers William Johansson Kalén and Lars Edman went to Arica in Chile in 2005. For 15 years we have followed the case where a Swedish mining giant, Boliden, is accused of having dumped 20000 tonnes of toxic waste in a poor neighborhood in a Chilean desert town.

Our first film Toxic Playground made its audience aware of the suffering in Arica. It was eventually also acknowledged by a group of lawyers who wanted to bring Boliden to court. ARICA tells the story about how the very poor gets a voice against the very big and powerful. It’s also a story about what happens when Rolf, the former director of environment at the Boliden plant, is called to testify in the case.

We are exhausted, but also very, very proud to have the film premiered at IDFA. ARICA will be screened in the Frontlight section.
