World premiere for Democracy Road in Bergen

Turid Rogne’s documentary Democracy Road is chosen to compete at Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF) 20 to 28 September.

The film is a co-production between Norwegian Aldeles A / S and Laika Film and is a story about how Aye Chan Naing, chief editor of Radio and TV station The Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) along with the reporter Than Win Htut is fighting for democracy and freedom of speech in their home country Myanmar. DVB played a major role in the decline of the old dictatorship and during exile for many years in Norway, returning to Myanmar have always been the will and goal for the journalists. They are now going back to build up a national independent television channel. They hope to challenge the limitations of the country’s newborn democracy. But many years of military dictatorship has left deep scars in the country. The fight for freedom of expression is far from over and still poses great dangers.

Democracy Road is edited in Sweden by Laika’s William Johansson and will be available on SVT during the winter.

The film has financial support from the Swedish Film Institute
